HACI OSMAN ARIKAN

He was born in Kahramanmaraş in 1910. From a young age, he developed himself in scientific, social, and cultural fields through his education and conversations with scholars. He served in the War of Independence, his mother was martyred when he was 10, and he also served in Çanakkale during World War II. Hacı Osman Arıkan, one of the prominent figures of the 20th century, made significant contributions to the political, social, and economic life of Kahramanmaraş. Starting with a small capital, he achieved great success in business, founded the Maraş Trade and Industry Enterprises, flour and cotton processing factories, and became the founding president of the Maraş Commodity Exchange.

He also contributed to the founding of companies such as Maryem, Tusan, and Maraş Food Industry. He was the founder of the city's first hotel, "Çeltik Palas", a tax champion, and a founding member of many social institutions. In 1990, he entered the textile industry by founding Arıkan Mensucat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. He achieved great success in agriculture as well, bringing tractors and combine harvesters to Maraş. He served as a municipal council member and made significant contributions to social and cultural development. Hacı Osman Arıkan was a humble, honest, and visionary leader.
He passed away on September 11, 1999.
